Highlights

In Jabalpur, MP, IAS officer Swapnil Wankhade of the 2016 batch started a project named “Kabaad se Kamaal.”

This initiative transforms deserted city buses into useful areas that can be used as libraries, changing rooms, and other places.

An IAS officer in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has shown inventiveness by repurposing abandoned city buses into useful areas to meet various civic needs. As the Municipal Commissioner, Swapnil Wankhade, an IAS officer from the 2016 batch, has appropriately dubbed this creative project “Kabaad se Kamaal” (waste to wonder).

The project’s outstanding success has attracted attention from all over the world, so much so that a group from London decided to plan a trip to Jabalpur in November in order to observe the initiative’s effects firsthand.

KABAAD IS KAMAAL

Redesigning city buses that were out of commission after more than 15 to 20 years of service marked the beginning of the project. Instead of just throwing these buses away, Mr. Wankhade and his group thought of a more significant purpose for them. The officer said, “Instead of selling these buses as scrap, I thought, why not turn them into something beneficial?”

The buses were cleverly converted into libraries, providing youngsters living in impoverished communities with vital access to books. While these libraries were once filled with comic novels, they have since expanded to include educational resources for pupils in grades V through VIII. This creative solution to the city’s lack of adequate libraries for underprivileged kids was well received.

REST ROOM

A rest room will also have several motorcars were converted into rest areas for trippers at the machine stage. These repurposed megacity motorcars are now equipped with suckers and proper lighting, icing a comfortable terrain. To enhance safety and security, 24/7 CCTV surveillance has been enforced in the area.

CHANGING ROOM

Wankhade stressed the challenge of constructing changing apartments along the Narmada swash Ghats due to regulations proscribing any structures. To address this, motorcars have been repurposed into changing apartments for women, icing both their safety and security.

FUTURE STRATEGIES

The administration is exploring the conversion of these retired motorcars into mobile police cells for the Mahila Police, thereby perfecting safety measures for youthful girls and women in vulnerable areas.

GLOBAL ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The poignant and innovative ‘ Kabaad se Kamaal ’ action in Jabalpur caught the attention of the global stage, earning a spot as one of the ten finalists in a prestigious contest held in London.

“We’re pleased that our trials have gained transnational recognition” expressed Mr.Wankhade. “Our waste- to- wonder action not only showcases creativity but also addresses pivotal societal requirements. It’s gratifying to see that our work is appreciated beyond our borders. ”

The success of the design drew the interest of a London- grounded platoon, set to visit Jabalpur in November to witness the waste- to- wonder action firsthand.

Jabalpur’s ‘ Kabaad se Kamaal ’ action stands as a compelling illustration of how creativity and foresight can turn waste into prodigies, bringing positive metamorphoses to communities and earning global sun in the process.
